Seasonal Affect: Forlorn

Category Tags ,

18″ x 38″. This theme resonated with me as so many winter days on the coast can be foggy, damp and grey with steady rainfall.  I used a palette of grey, mauve and blue to create a downcast mood of low energy.  The seated figure reflects this mood. Escape, if temporary, lies in the distant neon lights of the city or in a walk through the forest.

I used hand painted silk for the sky and appliqué pieces built up in layers for the forest, figure and middle ground. The piece is quilted using machine stitching through all the layers. The tree is drawn with layers of free motion ‘thread painting’.  Some drawing and painting were added to the surface.  Fibre Art Network Shows.
